Help your organization make decisions based on evidence. This class will provide you with an understanding of data science techniques and teach you how to use big data to make informed business decisions.

You will learn:

  • How to measure progress towards ambiguous business goals
  • How to identify problems appropriate for data science methods
  • How to critique a data science project
  • How to hire and manage data scientists

In class we will use students’ current businesses to demonstrate the process of formulating a specific research question based on vague business goals, defining and scoping a data science project, selecting the right person to execute the project, and finally evaluating the success of the project. We will also discuss case studies of typical data science projects.

This session is designed for managers and engineers curious about data science and how data can solve real business problems. No experience necessary.

Taught on August 20th, 2012.
